kozik_beethoven-320x480 Frank Kozik Interview: Pt. III How many releases have you done thru Ultraviolence?
Technically. Three so far, six are about to come out (at The San Diego Comic Con) and four more are being made right now. Ultraviolence is probably going to release six products a year. At comic con they’ll be a release of the Ho Chi Mehn in vinyl. UltraViolence is all wholesale and it’s all store exclusives. Kidrobot gets a color, Rotofugi gets a color, all the stores get an exclusive. And I have a special colorway for my subscribers. Beethoven’s going to end up with 12 colorways.

How big can you go? Like car size?
Well, like I got this deal with a weird nightclub thing I’m designing and it’ll have my name on it. It’s going to be in Las Vegas, in a casino. It’s going to be a high end art gallery but it’s also going to be a bar. It’ll be a chill environment, and they’ll be big art for sale. (from a variety of artists- that Kozik will be curating) I’m in the middle of trying to design the interior. (they’re still working on where it will be located).

So this is why you work from 10am to 10 at night.

Well, I waste a lot of time, I don’t have a social life anymore, which is fine. I get up and I come down here I work a little bit, a fuck around a little bit, I fuck around more than I work usually. Well, I’m usually behind. But I get a lot done.

But it’s your passion so differentiating work from…

I think my passion is sleeping. I’ve been doing this for so long, I don’t know what it is anymore. I’ve just been really lucky. Every time I’ve decided to have a hobby, it’s turned into money. I don’t know if the work’s that great, but I like it. I don’t know if I work a lot or not enough, a lot of shit’s getting done. Increasingly these days, it’s just me arranging things. Like here’s my idea, this guy sculpts it, someone gets it made, I design the box, it’s not like I’m sitting down and doing the sculpt, that would be impossible. I’d never get anything done. I paint and I do one offs…it’s more like I’m just designing and that’s why I can do it by myself. I’m not doing it by myself, it’s just the other people, they’re not here. I have one main sculpting guy, he’s in Berkeley, I have a couple sculptures in Japan. And with the clothing, I don’t really design the clothes, I give them patterns, and let them do it.

You make so much stuff, do you have any favorites?
I like the rabbit. I’m really into the busts. That’s actually my favorite thing. Like it’s Ho Chi Minh but it’s furry and it’s pink, I don’t know what you would call that, but I like it.
