ToyCyte: Toy Culture Collected

This upcoming election is historic for so many reasons, and the art community just keeps adding to the excitement. I grew up watching Ren & Stimpy and annoying my sister by imitating a Ren voice saying things like, “They all think I’m crazy, but I know better. It is not I who are crazy. It is I who am MAD!” And maybe with a nod in the direction of Alfred E. Newman, it is a mad, mad, mad world afterall. Now with the completion of the final paint and sculpts of his presidential candidates [blogged], Ren & Stimpy mastermind, John Kricfalusi delivers some caricature competition for Jailbreak Toys’ Barack Obama Action Figure.

Some of the text on the package came from suggestions by readers of John’s blog, and no one is spared a little ribbing: Whether your favorite candidate is “a pantsuit stuffed with experience,” full of silly hopes, wishes and changes or “armed to the dentures with experience,” you’ll want to get all three. I once had a set of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky figures. They came with a cigar and had voiceboxes that shouted things like “I love pizza!” They were made to plug into my car’s cigarette lighter and hang out on the dashboard.
