doktora-blavatski

We love Doktor A and Gallery1988, so the only sad thing about their pairing up as part of the Transcenders group show is that it’s showing in the LA Gallery, not the SF Gallery, where we could peep it with our own eyes. Luckily, G1988 always blogs up their shows for all to see. Following this week’s release of Doktor A’s mini-Mechtorians, we thought it would only be right to spotlight these truly transcendent one-off custom art works. These figures would look brilliant in anybody’s collection, but I can’t believe a trendy cafe hasn’t yet snapped up the Patented Tasseomancer (below) yet. I have a barrista friend I wish I could get that for. Most of the work has been sold. If you crave more photos of these pieces, stop by the dedicated Transcenders blog, from where all these photos and words were lifted.

Above you see: Blavatski & Sons: Phenomenologocal Extrapolator (18″ tall by 7″ x 8″, made of vinyl, vopper, glass, aluminum, paper, lead, rubber, cedar wood, ABS, polyurethane resin and found objects, for $1,500.00)

Rid your household of unwanted Apparitions the modern way. This marvel of engineering does away with the need for priests, arcane ceremonies, bells, books and candles. Simply set him to work in your haunted establishment and he will swiftly render your insubstantial tenant into its component parts. Ectoplasm, Aether, Sulphur and Vapour are collected separately for easy disposal later. Any potentially valuable or interesting Apports are also collected and stored. The Miraculous patented engine requires no stoking or cranking as it gathers its kinetic force from the dissipated spirits previously despatched.

doktora-devinator

Blavatski & Sons: Patented Personal Devinator (6″ tall by 5″ x 5″, made of vinyl, brass, steel, paper, lead, rubber, acrylic and found objects for $650)

Your Pocketsized Clockwork Advisor. When the larger Kismet Disseminator is simply too bulky (such as when on Safari) this smaller version of the Devination Engine can come in very handy. Always ready to dispense invaluable tidbits of wisdom to aid you through your day. Featuring tear off slips for easy storage in a pocket or journal.

doktora-decoys

Blavatski & Sons: Clockwork Spirit Decoys (Edition of six. Three brass, three copper. 3″ tall by 3″ x 2″, made of vinyl, lead, rubber, brass and polymer clay for $250.00/each)

Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement of attic? Intended for use in conjunction with the Phenomenologocal Extrapolator. These tiny clockwork characters rush about your domicile and entice other less mechanical spirits into believing that it is safe to emerge from hiding. Available individually or in sets. These plucky little fellows take the legwork out of ghost busting.

doctora-seance

Blavatski & Sons: The Automatic Medium : Seance Engine (6″ tall by 18″ wide by 12″, made of oak, cedar wood, vinyl, brass, steel, paper, lead, rubber, silver and found Objects for $1,800)

  1. 1. Arrange cards in a semi circle in front of the device.
  2. 2. Place the planchard in the centre of the cards.
  3. 3. Set dial A to the spirit you wish to contact.
  4. 4. Set dial B to the time since death if known.
  5. 5. Fully wind the patented clockwork mechanism.
  6. 6. Sit in a circle around the device and join hands.
  7. 7. Once the spirit is contacted ask the desired question
  8. using standard international Morse code via the tap key mounted on top of the case.

doktora-tasseomancer

Blavatski & Sons: Patented Mechanised Tasseomancer (12″ tall by 7″ x 4″ (not including cups), made of vinyl, brass, steel, paper, lead, copper, rubber, ABS, glass and found objects for $1000)

Daily Devination Through Infusion Detritus. The art of foretelling the future through the interpretation of tea leaves is an ancient a nobel art.
Blavatski & Sons new Tasseomancy engine brings this age old craft into the modern world. Far more accurate than any crone, the Tasseomancer will deduce your future activities with a high degree of accuracy in a fraction of the time. He can also make suggestions about the best way to brew a good cup of char.

This is completely ridiculous how amazing these are. Doktor A is on seemingly another level from everyone out there right now. So original, awesome stories behind everything and details for days. I mean its no smurf or spongebob redo, but its close.

  2. Jeremy Brautman Says:

Oh snap. Not to say a person can’t enjoy both artists (I do), but consider this: The Personal Patented Devinator, an original piece of awesome art, is priced about the same as what KAWS fans are paying for production 100% and 400% Dissected Be@rbricks (with shipping) on the aftermarket!

  3. Kylo76 Says:

I love having you as my own personal devil’s advocate Jeremy :) . I wil admit the Dissected are awesome, possibly the only KAWS pieces I really like, but I really don’t think it’s a contest as to the Devinator and the Be@rbricks. So much time and effort Dok A puts into these pieces, they’re just incredibly original. I guess i’m just a Dok A homer and a KAWS hater. Actually I really don’t hate KAWS at all, I guess I just don’t get the popularity. My brain hurts now what with all of this thinking. I sure hope my boss never comes on toycyte to see how many posts I make…just don’t ever post anything on Thomas Kinkade and we should be good, that’s like crack for rich dumb white people.

And I love that Kylo posts all this from work. Don’t get canned man, I don’t know what we’d do without you. We totally agree on this one though. I can’t believe original art like this is in the same price-range as production pieces. The Tasseomancer is still available! I wonder what you will think of all the Doktor A mini-mech variants that are coming down the pipe. I pretty much have to go to SanDiego CC this year to get my hands on those.
