Dia de los Muertos Plush Art Show

events, plush

Proximity to Halloween ups the chances of TWO Day of the Dead posts (so far and it’s still early) in one day (the first one being Phoebe Marie’s awesome Dunnys for the Spooktacular show in Cleveland). Jason sends me info for this Dia de los Plush show at Phoenix’s Red Hot Robot. Over 20 artists from around the world will be paying homage to the historic Day of the Dead ritual and its associated imagery, albeit with a modern plush twist. You’re going to recognize several of the names, including: Jared Deal (”Six-Point Sugar Skull”, above right), Heidi Kenney (”Rosa and the Devil,” below 1st), Serena Kuhl (”Mamcita” and skeletons with painted faces–collab w/ Marita Albers, below 2nd) and Jon Knox/Hello, Brute. The show opens October 11th (reception from 7-10PM) and runs through November 7th. A “special event” will be held Saturday, November 1st in celebration of Halloween. All pieces will be available for purchase starting at the opening reception and then online October 12th. Trick or treat!
