DC Direct’s Blammoids… Why Not?

Okay, so here’s a cross-property collectible that breaches the whole ’urban vinyl’ thing that I actually LIKE – and not only because one of ‘em is Batman.

DC Direct has announced the Blammoids, a range of mini-figures that promises to debut in 2010. They’re tiny, they’re kinda shaped like tops, and they BOUNCE – there’s an action feature that we haven’t seen in a long time. The first set will include Batman, The Joker, Firestorm, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Sinestro. After that, we’ve seen previews to indicate that there’ll be a Superman and a Battle Armor Lex Luthor – and that they’ll have articulated shoulders.

I have to honestly say that these are a million times more creative than the Uni-Formz that they’ve been cranking out, and that eyeless Joker? THAT, my friends, is a creative leap that I give DC Direct much respect for. Engorged-headed Sinestro, and a Firestorm with a gracefully simple flame perched atop his head as if he were a Bic lighter – all smart, aesthetic choices that I’m interested in seeing up close.

I still miss Minimates, though.

The firestorm and GL really reminded me of your art when I first saw them. I think it might be the circle eyes.
