Crazy 4 Cult 2: Art and Contests for Film Buffs

Fri, Aug 8, 2008

Beyond Toys, events

Sunny first blogged Crazy 4 Cult 2 & Ain’t It Cool News’ collab contest here, and since then Gallery 1988’s blog has been packed with the kind of imagery that makes us film buffs and cult geeks remember why it’s OK to never leave the house. G1988 currently has two contests running: Though entry into the 1st contest (where artists were encouraged to submit works inspired by cult movies with one lucky piece to be included in the show) has now ended, G1988 has opened up commenting here so we can “vote” for our favorite finalist. So many inspired ideas: Jack Nance’s signature ‘do in Eraserhead replaced by a silver Dixon Ticonderoga. Both Freaks pieces. (We just re-rented Freaks the other day. Did you know the DVD has tons of extra features?) Can’t go wrong with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes…The 2nd contest is really one for the fans: The person to most correctly match the cult film to the corresponding character number for all 130 references in the poster by Andrew Wilson will win a prize package (and much adulation). Contest details are here. Also: there are no losers. The huge poster by Andrew–as well as another new awesome Crazy 4 Cult 2 poster by Scott Campbell–will be available at the show’s opening on August 22nd. Both posters will be hung in their original incarnations among work by Alex Pardee, Angry Woebots,  Brandt Peters, Cameron Tiede, Chet Zar,  Joe Ledbetter, Kathie Olivas, Luke Chueh, Monster Factory, Noferin, Travis Louie, Yoskay Yamamoto and more. I guess we do have to leave the house sometimes. See you there!
