custoMONDAY: Win a Custom Victim By MONSTREHERO

MONSTREHERO is Sean Blay and Cliff Kirschner, two guys who live in Orlando and like to make toys. They draw influence from superheroes, Japanese monsters, comics, old school action figures and the environment around them. Perusing MONSTREHERO's Flickr, you'll immediately notice that the duo is not afraid of color or texture. One of their signature original figures, The Victim, ranges from a sweet soda shoppe Shirley Temple colorway to the Skittle-vomit Mardi Barf variant. For this week's custoMONDAY, the winner will get a custom Victim made to his/her specs!

Frank Kozik at VTN Winter 08

I sometimes wonder if Frank Kozik gets tired of answering the same questions over and over. While I was circulating the VTN floor, Frank was attended to by various camera crews and fans waiting for signings. He had a ton of merch from hand-painted exclusives to Sharkys and Muttpop and kaiju figures to some Qees [...]

Tim Biskup at VTN Winter 08

Tim Biskup’s Flopdoodle shop was one of the first tables I encountered when entering VTN. I took these pictures just before the event opened and folks who were queued around a couple buildings shuffled in and absconded with much of the loot. Tim had a good mix of designer vinyl and kaiju, including figures of [...]

Oldest Japanese Toy Store in US is Closing Its Doors

Lately it seems like there’s lots of use for the expression, “It’s the end of an era.” With local independent book, record and toy stores unable to compete with so-called big-box chains and economic woes, more mom and pop shops close their doors. If you’re lucky, they maintain a small online presence. Such is the case [...]
