Buff Monster Series 2 Revenge at SDCC 08

I’m a little confused by the MINDstyle press release for Buff Monster’s REVENGE series 2 art toys. They’re calling this an SDCC exclusive, but saying that “each Buff Monster SDCC exclusive figure purchased will come with a free Buff Monster Series 2 mini figure.” I thought these were the series 2 mini figures? That’s like saying, if you buy a special Granny Smith apple at the supermarket, we’ll give you a special Granny Smith apple. Maybe I’m reading it wrong. In any event, I can grasp this much: Buff Monster’s REVENGE series kicks off Wednesday, July 23rd at SDCC. The figures are blind-boxed in an edition of 400. There are 8 different designs, plus a chase figure and a secret figure randomly packed in each case. Somehow, they are promising that fans and collectors will get all 8 figures by buying a case of 12. They also say that each figure retails for $29.99. Is that a typo or is this series radically overpriced? If anyone understands this, please write in and clarify. It’s making my head feel funny in a bad way.

But here’s something I can tell you with some clarity: ToyTokyo (booth #5237) will have the debut of the Buff Monster Clear Red Vinyl at SDCC. I believe that this is the figure you see all the way at left in this pic below from Vinyl Pulse’s NYCC 08 coverage. I think so anyway. Maybe I need a cup of coffee.

I think if you buy one of these regular 3″ series 2 figures you’ll get a free Buff 1″ mini (series 2, the icecream series) This makes sense cos they don’t seem very popular and they’re sure to have plenty of spare stock.
I think you’re right on the price, so far all the Buffmonster toys have been overpriced and under designed. No wonder you can still buy the 1st series of larger figs at retail.

Damn I seriously can’t believe they are charging $29.95 for Buff Monster 3.5″ mini figures. You can get 3 of the Kathie Olivas MINDstyle minis for that much–and IMO, that series boasts much better designs. Oh well, maybe MINDstyle will use some of the BM money to pay someone to copyedit their press releases so they make more sense.

Seems a bit ridiculous. You’re right…those Kathie Olivas minis look awesome.
