While the Kaiju Monster Invasion show during Art Basel Miami promises to have a ridiculous number of impressive bits, Mr. Bob Conge sends along an especially interesting set of monsters, entitled ‘Plaseebo - The Awakening’. Conge always manages to summon some genuinely surreal, creepy creations. If there’s a way to make kaiju even more bizarre and frightening, Conge finds a way to freak me the hell out almost every time.
Five skeleton creatures float around in a handmade wooden cabinet, surrounding the sarcophagus of the Mummy Plaseebo. Not only do portions of the creatures light up via LED lights and switches, but they also glow in the dark, in a rare an innovative combination of bi-luminescence. Conge went on at length about the awesomeness and relevance of this work, but the pictures should be more than enough to convince you of the full-on, naked awesome.
The show will open on December 3rd at the Art Center of South Florida, and you should totally go so that I might live vicariously through you.
