Barbie Goes to the Birds

Beyond Toys, action figures

Yeah, I know that Toycyte is no place for Barbies, but I just couldn’t resist posting something about this particular plastic blonde American icon. Mattel, to celebrate the forty-fifth birthday of Alfred Hitchcock’s chilling ode to suspense and scary black avians, released a very special The Birds edition of its classic doll. This Barbie is fashioned and styled just like the film’s protagonist, Tippi Hedren. But what makes this Barbie different than all other Barbies? Being attacked by three black birds of course.

This is part of Mattel’s Black Label line and will be available from the Barbie Collector site after October 3rd. When I first spotted an image of this doll, I was convinced it was someone’s pop culture -inspired college art project, but no, it’s for real. Awesome. What next? The Psycho bathtub scene Barbie? If you happen to flirt with the non-urban toy, you can pick up with blondie here.
