This is what I’ve been waiting for. It channels a couple of my passions (customs and change) into one unique art event. Jailbreak Toys, makers of the Obama Action Figure, will present ART + ACTION at Toy Tokyo’s gallery: The Showroom NYC on October 17th. Contemporary artists, toy designers and graf writers like Mars-1, Peat Wollaeger, kaNO, Brin Berliner, Brent Nolasco, Voltaire and Ron English (who will be signing Abraham Obama posters at the show) are just a handful of the customizers who will go to town on unpainted DIY Obama figures. Damn this is cool. My mind is overwhelmed with artists I want to forward this to from Cypher13 to Mike Leavitt and all the Upper Playground crew who play with politics. By the way, 10% of the sale of each figure will go to the artist, with the remainder going to the Obama For America Campaign.
If you’d like to be involved in ART + ACTION, please send your mailing address and a jpeg or hyperlink of your work to jailbroke [at] gmail [dot] [com] before October 1st. Address it to Jenn. By the way, if you participate, all figures must be returned to Jailbreak Toys by October 12th. ART + ACTION = OBAMA 08.
Jailbreak Toys’ Jason Feinberg is living the American Dream: he came up with an awesome idea and followed it through to success. Now he can afford an existence based around the philosophy of creating and producing smart toys. Many people dream of pursuing a career they love, but these days, folks are just grateful for any job that can pay the rent. We’re hoping for change in November. We’re hoping that when we wonder: can we go on making, collecting and writing about toys and still have roofs over our heads, the resounding answer is Yes We Can.

Thanks so much for the event love, Jeremy! Just a small note-Ron English will be signing his Abraham Obama posters there, but is not slated to do a custom at this point.
We just booked the Truth & Soul production squad as the musical guests. They will be throwin down some sick funk and soul from 7-11 on Oct. 17th. Be there toyphiles!
