Beyond Toys, events

American Hardcore, a documentary about punk music in the 1980s highlights tonight’s fundraiser at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse presented by the Society of Beach Culture Preservation. The evening will include a silent auction of Vans and skate decks designed by artists and surfers, such as Bob Dob (whose deck appears below). Proceeds will benefit 32-year-old surfer Nathan Gocke (www.supportnathangocke.com) and 5-year-old Cooper Jones (www.cooperscure.org). Gocke was paralyzed after breaking his neck surfing at 33rd Street in Hermosa last March. Jones was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) two years ago. Donation $12. Doors open at 6PM. The Hermosa Beach Playhouse is located at the corner of Pier Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. The event also features music from local band Too Rude and DJ Sicko Ramos.
