Holland’s renowned pig artist, Charles Stephan, Korea’s ball-jointed dollmakers, Elfdoll, and China’s collectible culture kings, Toy2R, have produced a collaboration of international implications with this month’s line of Alice Cherry Blossom Qees. The Qee figure was retooled to create a brand new head that is incredibly faithful to the original Alice Cherry Blossom. And there’s something special for the Qee body too–check out the new tail in the turnaround above. Toy2R sent me these pics that show the process of turning Alice Cherry Blossom from a $290 5.5-inch ball Elfdoll to an affordable 2.5-inch collectible Qee series.
I’ve been looking forward to these since I first learned of them in April. I wrote Charles to ask him what the experience of doing a Qee was like, and whether we’d see any of his trademark hand-painted and fabric clothing figures. He responded: “It was great fun working on a designer toy version of the Alice Cherry Blossom character, and I especially felt honored working together with one of the most well known designer toy companies, Toy2R. Really awesome! I surely plan to do custom versions which naturally will be hand-painted. In fact these are in the works as we speak…”
You can see one such custom, the “metal” Alice Cherry Blossom in the image with the flower pot below. I’m happy to report that the ACB series will come in Toy2R’s new double-panel window box packaging. Due to the financial considerations or PR nightmares with buying blind boxes, I’ve come to prefer being able to see what I’m about to spend a couple gallons of gas to purchase. Toy2R is packaging the ACB Qees in larger boxes that have front and back windows (seen here with the Mark Fairwhale Qees). The 2.5-inch Qee assortment dropping this month will include Alice Cherry Blossom, Gothic Hoody Alice, Ballerina Alice, School Angel Alice and School Angel Billie. There will also be “global” flesh-toned Alice Cherry Blossom Qee figures perfect for customizers. You can find Alice Cherry Blossom at designer toy boutiques worldwide, through Diamond Previews and as part of our upcoming gigantic giveaway from Toy2R. Stay tuned, and enjoy all the pics!
