You know those lame US Air Force commercials with the tagline “We’ve been waiting for you”? The delicate interplay of being simultaneously in command and understood that echoes in that expression is kind of genius, yet woefully ill-used for warmongering. So I submit a repurposing. Here’s something we’ve been waiting for…to hold in a low-light, curtains drawn private embrace, to view on public transit and feel shivers of excitement when we notice strangers looking over our shoulders, to prop up on the coffeetable amidst a fan of magazines we “accidentally” took home from the doctor’s office… It’s Alex Pardee’s long-awaited art book: Awful/Homesick: The Art of Alex Pardee. The hardbound book is over 100 full-color pages published by 5024SF and Upper Playground with a foreword by Jeben Berg. Alex will be at the UP SF shop on Sunday, September 7th from 2-4PM to sign a limited number of advance copies. A skatedeck based on his Sore Throat design will also be available. The books will be available for purchase at stores and online in the following weeks.
Alex dropped some commentary on his blog where he tells us what he’s got on HR Giger and how a $9 Taschen book once basically made him pee. Check out scans from Awful/Homesick below, and I’ll see you at the signing.
