Ain’t Afraid of No Ghostbusters Replicas

action figures

I can’t be the only person who feels that the world has a serious dearth of proper Ghostbusters stuff to crap up my living spaces with. Sure, Time-Life FINALLY dropped the full DVD collection on us, and the old Kenner action figures were pretty awesome, but in recent years? Not so much.

The high-end collect-o-trons over at Master Replicas have quietly announced that they’ll be cranking out screen-accurate, full-scale replicas of both the iconic Ghost Trap and Proton Packs from the cinematic features, much in the vein of previously released Star Trek, Halo and Harry Potter replica items. Hopefully, the incredibly sexy James Bond Golden Gun that they promised at last year’s Toy Fair will be on the way soon, but a Ghost Trap that doesn’t shatter into five plastic pieces when you use it during childish role-playing adventures is an exciting prospect for a Ghost-nerd like me (who also buys up animation cels from the cartoon).

Will this new Proton Pack cast ghostly projections upon the walls of the den, in the style of the original toy? We’ll see.

While no pictures have been provided just yet, these items are scheduled for a Spring 2009 release, and if Master Replicas stays true to the quality they’re known for, they should look a heck of a lot like these actual prop photos.

Don’t hold your breath – Master Replicas is a sinking ship – their stock price is almost no-existent – their UK division is bankrupt.

This is another case of good concept, bad management.

I can tell you for a fact the Ghostbuster props are never going to be produced by Master Replicas. There are only 8 people that work there now 2 in sales, 2 in IT, 2 in accounting, the CFO and the CEO. Also they have no money and can’t borrow any.
