In Tokyo, they have cat cafes. If you’re sad or stressed, you can go there and sink into what I can only imagine as the equivalent to the ball-pit at Chuck E Cheese, but with fur and tea. I peeped a roomful of Uamou on Ayako Takagi’s Flickr page, and though sleek and chic, it somehow aroused the same sort of feeling as the cat room. The concept of Rooms is written as a stream-of-consciousness word association:
Rooms= plural of room, apartment, lifestyle, cooperation, friend, family, community, country-to-contry, colors, Japanese, foreigners, people, differences, ?, communicate, chat, play, gather, party, dress up, slightly special, invitation, invitee, guest, tension, participate, ethhusiastic, discovery, fun, hobby, growth, creation, deliver, know, learn,, people-to-people, encounter, buddy.
The idea behind Rooms is that each Creator/Designer has an idea or concept to transmit to the world around them, and Rooms provides a “room” to exhibit those ideas. Launched in 200, rooms is held twice a year. Ayako Takagi has done up Room17 with tons of Uamou style, including a giant plush and some of the recent clear blue and green resin figures. Cool to see another arena in which art toys are being represented.
