Beyond Toys, custom, vinyl

DJ Shiro Pothead Platform PlanterBigshot Toyworks Potsie

Nothing says “legalize it” like getting publicly naked and lit up, as is the custom every April 20th here in the Bay Area. For those of you who are staying inside and can see the computer screen through the smoke, here’s a little flashback.

Things aren’t always peaceful in Pot Land and last year DJ Shiro’s Pot Head figure faced off with Klim’s Potsie on the Kidrobot Discussion Boards. Seems that Shiro turned his original trademark 12″ pot head figure into a DIY platform figure (above left) as Klim’s company Bigshot Toyworks was putting out a very similar toy (above right). The pair argued about who thought of it first, and Klim pointed out that his Potsie had more to do with planting seeds than cannabis iconography. These days, Shiro is a downtempo DJ in L.A. and his MySpace page says he’s still making toys (including a Munny crossover, below left). Klim is an in-house designer at Bigshot Toyworks who just put out the fantastic Bertie the Pipebomb blogged here.

People are going to keep making pothead toys (below right), so in honor of 4/20, why can’t we all just get along?

I also pointed out the fact that I contacted Shiro
back in 2004 to see if he was interested in doing a “POtheads” version of our Potsies as a guest designer in a crossover we were planning at the time with a popular hemp related magazine.
also that Munny with a flower pot on it was done a almost a year after I shared our Potsie designs with Mr Shiro
