80’s Invasion in San Diego Next Week

action figures, plastic

I swear you might as well call Comic Con “Attack of My Childhood” with all the 80’s themed exclusives there. We’ve mentioned the Greyskull and Transformer stuff, but my Saturday morning flashback doesn’t end there. Next up is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles black and White set from NECA. It’s an ultra cool old school Eastman & Laird style set featuring all four turtles in a street scene. Fully equipped with the turtles main weapons, multiple points of articulation, and a street light round out this set. Word has it that Peter Eastman will be at the NECA booth signing these sets. These are limited to 500 at $50 a set. Grab these and the Mousers and have yourself a Turtle stand off.

Along with the Pony and Mighty Mugg figures, Hasbro is releasing something on the Joe side. The Cobra Commander SDCC exclusive features the terrorist leader…in a suit? And features such action accessories as “a banner” and “a podium.” I get why this might not survive on the shelves of Target, but makes a rad and geeky SDCC figure. The suited Commander comes from the old comic book (issue #38) where he’s ranting to a ravenous group of COBRA followers in the town of Springfield. You can get him in either an all black suit (perfect for Joe funerals, job interviews, etc.) or the more limited Springfield Country Club blazer. Cobra Commander comes in the traditional 3 3/4″ size and is blister packed.
